Description: As the AATSP’s guaranteed session at the MLA Convention, this session seeks to explore representations of health, well-being, and illness in Lusophone and Hispanophonecontexts from a variety of perspectives that include social justice, pedagogy, cultural production, linguistics, and cultural analysis across places and through time. Topics may include, but are not limited to:
- Analyses of health, well-being, or illness in literature or film in Lusophone and Hispanophone communities.
- Critical impact of health, well-being, or illness in linguistics or applied linguistics in Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking communities.
- Inclusive and socially just pedagogies or teaching methodologies in Portuguese or Spanish classes or programs at all levels (K-graduate school).
- Development of health, well-being, or illness methodologies or lesson plans for Portuguese or Spanish Languages for Specific Purposes classes or programs.
- Impact of initiatives supporting health and well-being and the mitigation of illness in Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking communities and cultures.
We seek 250-word abstracts for 10- to 12-minute papers.
