Hearing in/Justice
We invite abstracts for papers on legal/ political hearings, inquiries and investigations in/ as theatre or performance, for in-person presentation at this year's Law, Culture & Humanities conference, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada (May 17th-18th 2024).
We welcome contributions aligned with this year's conference theme, "Senses of Law", in a double sense. Firstly, this panel concerns itself with hearings, with the auditory dimension of law, with the affective charge of spoken testimony, audible accusation, voiced defense, and what it means to bear witness to such hearings as audiences. Secondly, we are concerned with "the sense of justice" anticipated, delivered, fulfilled, or disappointed by such legal and quasi-legal events, in their original stagings (in Congress, in courts, in camera) or in theatrical representations of such proceedings.
Papers should be 15 minutes in length and intended for presentation to an interdisciplinary audience.
Please send 250-word abstracts by 5pm EST on February 4th to Alex Feldman (bfeldman@univ.haifa.ac.il) and Victoria Scrimer (vscrimer@umw.edu). Please include your name, institutional affiliation and paper title, in addition to your abstract.
