The Rupkatha Journal on Interdisciplinary Studies in Humanities invites submissions on Creative Technologies in Art and Literature and the General Areas. This issue aims to explore the intersection of technology and creativity and examine how technological advancements are reshaping artistic practices, cultural production, and human expression.

The Theme

Technological innovations such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and digital media have revolutionized artistic and literary practices. These technologies offer new modes of expression and challenge traditional notions of authorship, originality, and the role of the creator. In our times, technology is not merely a tool but a transformative force that redefines the boundaries of art and literature. As Lev Manovich notes the evolving nature of cultural production in the digital age and states, “new media transforms all culture and cultural theory into an open-ended project”. We are also led to the exploration of posthumanism here. For instance, Katherine Hayles considers the impact of technology on human identity and expression, suggesting that “the posthuman subject is an amalgam, a collection of heterogeneous components, a material-informational entity whose boundaries undergo continuous construction and reconstruction.” This perspective is crucial for understanding how creative technologies are reshaping the boundaries of human expression in art and literature. Again, Mark B. N. Hansen’s focus on the experiential nature of digital media further enriches our understanding of this transformation. He asserts that “digital technologies have fundamentally altered the conditions of experience, making it possible to think of experience itself as a form of mediation.” This notion invites us to explore how technological mediation influences artistic and literary practices.

This special issue will investigate the profound impact of technological innovations on creative practices, with a particular focus on how these advancements reshape how we create, experience, and interpret artistic and literary works. The role of the reader or viewer is integral to this process, as their interpretations and experiences contribute to the ongoing dialogue about the transformative power of technology in the arts.
