ATDS Graduate Student Travel/Research Award

Purpose: To provide support for graduate student travel to present or conduct research (such as, but not limited to, archival or ethnographic) related to theatre and performance in the Americas. Awardees will receive $500, a one-year free membership to ATDS, and recognition during ATDS’s 2024 awards ceremony/annual membership meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.

Eligibility: Any student currently enrolled in a graduate program in theatre/performance studies (or related studies) is eligible. Students need not be members of ATDS at the time of application but preference will be given to ATDS members. Please note that the applicant must still be in graduate school during the proposed time of use for the award.

Application Process: Please submit the following materials via email to Dr. Stephanie Lim at sjoylim@uci.edu by 11:59 pm PDT on May 1. Submissions time-stamped after May 1 will not be accepted.

  • A brief proposal (150-300 words) that describes your research project and budget plan demonstrating a clear connection to theatre and performance in the Americas;
  • An abstract of the paper (150-500 words);
  • An invitation/notice of acceptance from the panel organizers for conference travel or detailed research questions and methodology for the archival/ethnographic research travel;
  • A current Curriculum Vitae;
  • Two letters of support from faculty mentors familiar with your work. Letters from ATDS members are especially welcome.

Awardee will be notified during the week of May 15.
