CFP: Memory and Mourning: Navigating Trauma and Grief in Postcolonial South Asian Literature
Inviting submissions for a panel on "Memory and Mourning: Navigating Trauma and Grief in Postcolonial South Asian Literature" at the 52nd Annual Conference on South Asia in Madison, Wisconsin (October 30–Nov 2, 2024). This panel aims to bring together scholarship on the synergies of memory and mourning with the postcolonial experience as represented in literatures of South Asia. It seeks papers which may explore literary representations of the (dis)continuity of history as a record of loss and suffering which continues to inscribe the collective national and communal memory. Papers may examine memory or the working of remembrance and forgetting in relation with questions of identity, loss, suffering, grief, nationhood, erasure, displacement, or resistance to authoritarianism.
Please submit a 250-word abstract and a brief bio at the following email addresses by April 3, 2024.
