Seeking session proposals for the American and Diaspora Studies area of the Northeast Modern Language Association.

March 6-9, 2025
Philadelphia, PA
Hotel & Convention Site: Philadelphia Marriott Downtown

Our Thursday opening address will be given by Benjamin Fraser.
Our Friday keynote event will be given by Julia Alvarez.

This year's theme, "(R)EVOLUTION," asks how the Humanities—in all their infinite variations, genres, and productions—have changed (in) our world, or failed to do so, or have maybe offered more or less progressive and imaginative mappings for more or less radical change. What role can the Humanities play in society, to honor our cultural and global diversity in all its dimensions.

As the newly elected area director, I am particularly interested in broadening participation in the organization and convention to reflect the diversity of the word "American."

Therefore, I am keen to receive proposals for sessions that utilize Black crit, queer of color critique, anticolonial methodologies, and Latinx methodologies, for example, and those that focus on African American literatures and African Diasporic literatures, Caribbean literatures, Asian American, Native American, and Latinx/Chicano Literatures. I also welcome submissions related to hip hop and popular culture.

Submissions from graduate students, early-career and contingent faculty, and independent scholars also welcome.

Please submit proposals to the cfp portal:
