Call for Papers: The Journal of Veterans Studies invites clinicians, researchers, scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to submit original research articles, reviews, and case studies dedicated to exploring the prevalence, impact, and implications of racial discrimination in the military.

Overview: The history of racial discrimination in the military is long and complex, shaped by factors such as segregation, integration efforts, and evolving social attitudes. The military, despite its reassurance of principles of meritocracy and equality, has grappled with issues of racial discrimination. The complex interplay of historical legacies, institutional structures, and social dynamics has created persistent challenges in achieving racial equity within military organizations.

The Journal of Veterans Studies seeks submissions to examine the multifaceted phenomenon of racial discrimination in the military by advancing scholarship and dialogue on the various dimensions of racial discrimination within military institutions. By critically examining these issues, authors should aim to catalyze positive change and foster a military culture that values diversity, fairness, and respect for all personnel.

Topics of Interest: We welcome original research articles, review papers, clinical studies, and case reports on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Historical perspectives on racial discrimination in the military.
  • Recruitment and enlistment practices and their racial implications.
  • Disparities in promotion, advancement, and career development.
  • Racial bias within the military justice system.
  • Personal narratives and qualitative studies of racial discrimination and harassment.
  • The impact of racial discrimination on mental health and job performance.
  • Policy analysis and the effectiveness of diversity and inclusion programs.
  • Comparative studies of racial discrimination across different branches of the military.
  • The role of leadership and representation in mitigating racial discrimination.
