June 22-28, 2025
As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the publication of The Great Gatsby, we invite scholars, researchers, and enthusiasts to submit proposals for The 17th International F. Scott Fitzgerald Society Conference in New York City.
While consideration will be given to proposals on any aspect of Fitzgerald’s life and work, we are particularly interested in papers that focus on the following areas:
- The timeless appeal of The Great Gatsby (1925)
- The influence of The Great Gatsby on literature, culture, and popular media
- Collecting Fitzgerald and The Great Gatsby memorabilia
- Changing trends in literary and cultural criticism of Fitzgerald, including global perspectives
- Fitzgerald’s short story collection, All the Sad Young Men (1926)
- Fitzgerald’s other New York novel, The Beautiful and Damned (1922)
- Fitzgerald’s “New York” writing, such as “The Rich Boy”, “My Lost City”, and “The Lost Decade”
- New contexts for Fitzgerald’s writing(e.g., the Harlem Renaissance; Gender and Sexuality Studies; and so on)
- Approaches to teaching Fitzgerald’s writing
- Fitzgerald and his New York publisher, Charles Scribner’s Sons
- The Fitzgeralds (Scott & Zelda) in New York
In addition to these areas, we also welcome proposals that explore other facets of Fitzgerald's life and oeuvre, particularly those set in our host city of New York, as well as proposals on Zelda Fitzgerald’s writing.
Join us for this unique opportunity to delve into the lasting legacy and contemporary relevance of F. Scott Fitzgerald's work. Please send proposals (250–500 words) as well as a brief biographical statement and audio-visual requirements to Program Director Maggie Gordon Froehlich @ fitzgeraldsociety@gmail.com, by 15 November 2024. Presenters will be notified of acceptance by mid-December.
