International Solidarity, Global Crises
Call for Submissions: The RAACES Review, Volume 3, Issue 1 (2025).
For our third publication (2025), our focus is international solidarity and we invite academic and creative pieces about racial empowerment, racism, racialization, Indigeneity, and anticolonial practice in any field. We welcome submissions from students (undergraduate and graduate) -- especially international students; staff; faculty of all levels; and community members. We are particularly interested in:
- Discussions of on-going global crises, social movements, and political tensions that are largely ignored in Western media.
- Accounts of racism’s role in the academic, professional, personal, or public experience of international students/ people rendered migrants as a function of their legal status.
- Explorations of new strategies of resistance among Black, Indigenous, racialized, queer, and/or other vulnerable communities (internationally and in the Americas) concerning the issues of the 21st century.
- Evaluations of how international students are rendered a source of revenue within institutions of higher learning in Canada.
Submissions can be made to one of five streams:
- "Manifestos" and documented interventions (e.g. advocacy, policy reform, social justice, community activism, letters, etc.)
- Artistic expressions, including poetry and photo-essays.
- Academic: scholarly articles (5000-7000 words inclusive of titles, headings, notes and references), including autoethnographies, first person narratives, theoretical work, and phenomenological pieces.
- “Op-Ed” opinion pieces (700-750 words).
- Reviews, including book, movie, or documentary film reviews (500-750 words), review essays (2000-2500 words), and review articles(5000-7000 words).
