“Transcultural Linguistic, Literary & Cultural Aspects of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS)”
Two-Day International Conclave (in Blended Mode)
on
“Transcultural Linguistic, Literary & Cultural Aspects of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS)” [15-16 February, 2025]
Organized by Centre for Foreign Languages, Bankura University
The tripartite schema or ‘trimurti’ of onto-epistemic verity in the Indian cognitive tradition, namely Jnan, Vignan, and Jeevan Darshan that have evolved out of experience, observation, experimentation, and rigorous analysis, materialise the ideal of universal knowledge with the sort of perfectibility that the West aspired to much later during the epochs of the Enlightenment and the High Renaissance. Although this constituted a vast repertoire of knowledge, a veritable treasure trove of Jñāna Paramparā, whose retrieval and revival were one of the core projections of the New Education Policy, 2020. Although it is being allotted a departmental standing and the organisational approval by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, its pedagogical status has also been contested on the grounds of pseudoscientific and pseudohistorical projections. On the other side, there is also the ideational aspiration to connect traditional knowledge (in alignment with the history of education in the Indian subcontinent), with the current-day Western epistemological praxis, to usher in a new wave of the history of ideas and critical formulations for education in the socio-cultural context of the Indian milieu.
This conclave seeks to take the debate further and beyond political rhetoric and campism, and welcomes critical insights in this ongoing debate and research investigation. It seeks to understand the scholastic interface where Oriental paradigms of knowledge exploration and Occidental data systemics compliment and contribute in a sustained pursuit of knowledge configurations and add up to the existing pool of verities where assumptions and givens that have not been critically examined are initiated into a holistic inquiry.
We welcome ideas and insights in the form of a brief abstract (500 words max) and a brief bio-note of the contributor/s (300 words max) on the following sub-themes, but by no means limited to them alone: -
