Decolonizing the Mind: A Journey through

Scholars and students are invited to engage in a series of thought-provoking dialogues that examine the process of decolonizing the mind. This series aims to critically explore and challenge the pervasive influences of colonialism on knowledge, culture, and society. Through interactive discussions, we will delve into the complexities of colonial and postcolonial studies, the significance of decolonial theories, and engage directly with a remarkable author in the field.

Session 1: Colonial and Postcolonial Studies

8:30-9:30 P.M. (Tehran) / 6-7 P.M (CET) January 12th, 2025; On Adobe Connect

Dr. Mohammad Bagher Shabanpour, a faculty member of the English Department at the University of Tehran, will provide a survey of the historical and contemporary impacts of colonialism and postcolonial thought. This session will explore how these powerful forces have shaped our world and continue to influence our present.

 

Session 2: The Significance of Decolonial Studies

8:30-9:30 P.M. (Tehran) / 6-7 P.M (CET) February 9th, 2025;    On Adobe Connect

Dr. Shabanpour will delve into the importance of decolonial theories and practices in reshaping knowledge and society. This session will examine how these revolutionary ideas can pave the way for a more just and equitable future.

Session 3: Decolonizing the Mind

7-8:30 P.M. (Tehran) / 4:30-6 P.M (CET) February 17th, 2025;    On Adobe Connect

Sandew Hira, an esteemed scholar, activist, and the author of the groundbreaking book Decolonizing the Mind, will provide an insightful talk on decolonization and his newly published book. Following his talk, participants will engage in a captivating dialogue with the author, gaining unique insights and discussing the relevance of decolonizing practices in today's world.
