Migration Mythologies
MELUS Call for Papers
Modern Language Association 2026
January 8-11, 2026
Toronto, ON (Canada)
Description:
Myths are stories meant to help explicate particular phenomena or traditionally held beliefs. Currently, myths of migration–i.e. the stories we tell about migrants mean and what they suggest about the past, present, and/or the future of the USA–impact not only public policy, but also reveal the ways that migrants figure in the national imagination. MELUS invites papers that consider how myths of migration inform ideological, cultural and literary practices in multi-ethnic US-American texts. Approaches may include explorations of literal and/or metaphorical representations of how myths of migration touch the lives of marginalized groups in the USA. Submit titled proposals (250 words), a brief CV, and AV needs.
Deadline: Monday, March 20, 2025
