(Deadline Extended) Call for Papers – Feminist Mappings: Art, Literature and Films by Indian Women
Spanning distances between bequeathed social identities and quests towards becoming, Indian women have documented the many shapes that such striving takes. They have traversed distances between equality and freedom; sifted nostalgia and futuristic imaginations; and mediated ideas of collectivization and autonomy. The upcoming issue of Indraprasth – A Journal of Culture and Communication Studies, investigates the ways in which Indian women writers and artists have perceived and shaped the world in literature and art.
What are the ways in which women authors, artists, playwrights and filmmakers in India have registered feminine desires and feminist perceptions? What are the experiences and explorations undertaken by female-authored texts in the past and the present? What articulations of corporeality feature in writers who view themselves as situated at the intersections of gender, caste, ethnicity and species? How do their autobiographical and autofictional works subvert older idioms and textual practices? What are the new ethics of representation that are being defined in performance arenas and visual fields? What kind of immersive aesthetics informs visual art and film in the last and current century? What is the former and current imagination of coalitional feminism? These and other questions will be examined in this issue of Indraprasth – An International Journal of Culture and Communication Studies. Dedicated to critical analyses of women-authored texts, the issue welcomes submissions on themes that deal with textual reading and feminist praxis including but not limited to close readings of social conditions of production and reception. Some of the figures that the journal will be focussing on are Amrita Sher-Gil, Anjolie Ela Menon, Nasreen Mohamedi in the field of fine arts; and Gauhaar Jaan, Begum Akhtar, Siddheshwari Devi, Rasoolan Bai, in the field of music; filmmakers such as Mira Nair, Deepa Mehta, Zoya Akhtar, Aparna Sen, Sai Paranjpye, Nandita Das, Shonali Bose, Konkona Sen Sharma, Reema Kagti, Rima Das and others. Amongst writers, the issue hopes to receive submissions on Arundhati Roy, Amrita Pritam, Qurratulain Hyder, Krishna Sobti, Geetanjali Shree, Anjum Hasan, Mamang Dai, Jacinta Kerketta, Bama, Easterine Kire, Janice Pariat and others.
