The RCSC promotes the study of the period c. 1300–1800, broadly interpreting the Renaissance within a global framework. The theme for the 67th Annual Conference is “Renaissance Adaptations.” We welcome proposals for papers and panels that engage with processes of imitation, emulation, critical fabulation, borrowing, future-making, and any other form of adaptive reworking of Renaissance materials, texts, or ideas by creators of the past, and creators of today. Such creative reuses encompass various attitudes to the past, including, but not limited to, admiration, antagonism, and nostalgia. We are interested in papers across historical periods and disciplinary fields that explore the idea of “Renaissance Adaptations” conceived broadly as adapting to cultures and environments, as well as adapting for peoples, cultures, and audiences. Research can include book history, cinema, art, politics, ecocriticism, literature, law, science, theater, linguistics, gender and queer studies, critical race studies, digital humanities, language learning models, and pedagogy. Please note that membership in the RCSC is required for conference participation.
