“Things That Go Bump in the Night: An International Literary Conference on All Things Scary”

October 16th-18th, 2025 – To be hosted online

Welcoming submissions for a free scholarly conference on scary literature to be hosted online from October 16th-18th, 2025 by Troy University undergraduate student, Anais Shelley.

Research may draw inspiration from (but is not limited to) these prompts:

  • Supernatural themes

  • Domestic horror

  • The role of setting within scary stories

  • Frightening myths and folklore

  • The gothic novel and short story

  • Body horror

  • Multicultural superstition and regional ghost stories

  • The works of authors such as Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Edgar Allan Poe

This conference is open to undergraduate and graduate students interested in presenting papers, posters, or digital graphics. Proposals (150-250 words) can be sent to ashelley226206@troy.edu by 31 August 2025. Please note that all presentations will take place in Central US time.
