This is an updated CFP for an edited collection representing contemporary “conservative cultural criticism” of books, film, TV, and other media. We are taking a broad view of what conservatism entails, but common influences cited by contributors include Russell Kirk, C. S. Lewis, Paul Elmore More, and Roger Scruton. I have 12 chapters so far on the following topics / authors:

  • Heian era Japan
  • King Arthur
  • King Lear
  • Victorian children’s literature
  • C. S. Lewis
  • Graham Greene
  • J. R. R. Tolkien
  • John Milius
  • Bret Easton Ellis
  • Bollywood Cinema
  • Svetlana Alexievich / womanhood
  • Friendship

The book is under contract with an academic publisher based in Europe. I would like to solicit a few more chapters to round things out a bit. I’d welcome essays of 6000-7000 words on any authors not mentioned above, focusing on non-Western subjects if possible (one of the selling points of the project is its international scope). I’m especially interested in analyses of TV shows or movies. I’d prefer completed chapters rather than abstracts / proposals, but we can talk about a timeline if you need to finish something up. Please write with any questions!
