The Dickens Society invites submissions for its sponsored hybrid panel at the 57th NeMLA convention, which takes as its theme the concept of “(Re)generation.” This event, which utilizes the conference app Whova and Zoom to promote accessibility and hybridity, will be held in Pittsburgh, PA at the Wyndham Grand Downtown, on the Point from March 5-8, 2026.

For the purposes of this convention, the concept of (re)generation is defined as that “which invokes positivity, energy, and engagement […] in the sense of bringing forth not the original but a new entity that is more powerful, vigorous, efficient, and healthier.” As a society working to conduct, further, and support research, publication, instruction, and general interest in the life, times, and literature of Victorian novelist Charles John Huffam Dickens (1812-1870), we welcome proposals for papers that explore ways to (re)generate the field of Dickens Studies, especially those implementing or incorporating archival work, diversity, intersectionality, pedagogy, systemic change, ethical technologies and/or innovative theoretical approaches. Proposals that engage with the theme of (re)generation within Dickens’s works will also be considered.

Please submit your abstract of no more than 300 words via the conference website by September 8, 2025.
