NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “CULTURAL STUDIES: PARADIGMS AND PERSPECTIVES” 10.10.2025
CONCEPT NOTE
With the rise of digitisation and production of glocal memories, the relevance of humanities as a discipline is being challenged and it is in need of a revamp. At this juncture, Cultural Studies play a vital role in facilitating a multi/post-disciplinary paradigm to understand the intricate production of forms of knowledge and the concomitant ‘structured polysemy’ (Hall). In this milieu, textual practices and methodologies of knowledge production are conditioned by societal interventions of power. Therefore, it is essential to read them along the lines of discursive configurations of meanings and social practices. And ‘Reading’ the disparate representations of cultural experiences and analysing their prerogatives of ‘morbid celebration’(Gilroy) has become an integral part of the academia. In this context, wherein ideocapes and media culture have emerged as active sites of identity construction, this Seminar aims to comprehend the trends, the discourses and the meta discourses in the domain of Cultural Studies which influence our reading and teaching practices. This seminar will trace the polemics of textual and visual representations and discuss the modalities of identity production and operation of power structures in hegemonic cultures, subcultures and countercultures that presciently formulate new codes of consensus and dissonance.
CALL FOR PAPERS
