The DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH AND AMERICAN STUDIES AT MASARYK UNIVERSITY, Brno, is pleased to announce the Brno Graduate Conference in English Studies, to be held on NOVEMBER 20-21, 2025.

This year's theme – "CULTURAL MEMORY: REMEMBERING THE FORGOTTEN" – invites doctoral students to explore numerous ways in which literary, cultural and linguistic practices contribute to the construction, preservation, and transformation of cultural memory.

The confirmed keynote speaker of the conference is prof. Dr. Volker Depkat from University of Regensburg.

We welcome papers in literature, cultural studies and linguistics that address the following topics, though submissions are not limited to these areas:

 Landscape memory: Memory of place and the place of memory,  Intergenerational transmission,  Memory in identity and cultural formation,  The past in contemporary narrative culture,  Formation of traditions, stereotypes, and mental images,  Adaptation and trans-medial studies,  Intersections of memory and trauma in texts,  The use of narrative techniques in the recovery of suppressed voices,  Comparative studies of memory in different literary traditions,  Memory and forgetting in digital and post-digital contexts,  The impact of literary archives on cultural memory

We encourage interdisciplinary approaches and welcome contributions from related fields and disciplines. We are open to a hybrid mode of presentation as well, so if you cannot make appearance in person, do not let it discourage you from applying!

We are looking forward to your contributions!Sincerely,
