Extended Deadline Reminder: Bodies That Breathe: The Politics of Air, Health, and Survival (Volume 1 of the “Earth and Us” Book Series)

deadline for submissions:
March 2, 2026
full name / name of organization:
Sturges and McGregor

Updated CFP: We invite three additional contributors to join the volume, replacing previously shortlisted chapter authors who were unfortunately unable to continue with the project. This presents an excellent opportunity to participate in a substantial scholarly publication that already includes confirmed contributions from researchers based in India, Palestine, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The collection brings together a wide range of critical approaches and contexts. Topics represented in the volume include Indigenous and Adivasi and Tribal ecologies, the Siege of Gaza, abiotic landscapes, speculative Black poetic artefacts, and interspecies resistance in literary analysis, among others.

We welcome proposals until 2 March 2026. The deadline for submission of full chapters has been extended to 15 April 2026. This timeline remains flexible in cases of extenuating circumstances, so interested scholars are encouraged to make contact to discuss possibilities.

Inquiries can be sent to editor@sturges-mcgregor.com or meghna.prabir@iimbx.iimb.ac.in.

Call for Chapters: Bodies That Breathe – The Politics of Air, Health, and Survival
Volume 1 of the “Earth and Us” Book Series

Earth and Us is a twelve-volume inquiry into how environmental breakdown and social inequality intertwine, bringing together feminist, queer, and decolonial perspectives. The inaugural volume, Bodies That Breathe, explores the politics of air, health, and survival.

We invite essays and creative-critical works (3,000–8,000 words) that engage with race, gender, ecology, and justice, rethinking breath as a site of struggle and connection.

Themes include but are not limited to: air and racial capitalism; polluted intimacies and environmental grief; breathing as resistance; climate anxiety and embodied justice; extractivism and slow violence; breath, ritual, and repair; respiratory illness and labour politics; speculative ecologies of air.

Proposal deadline: 30 November 2025
Full chapter due: 15 January 2026
Publication: February 2026
APC: INR 5,999 / USD 75 (waivers available for unfunded or economically marginalised scholars)
