ICSSR Sponsored Two-day International Conference on Myth, History and Tradition in Drama and Theatre
Drama and theatre have long served as dynamic mediums through which societies narrate their myths, record their histories, and preserve traditions. The interplay of myth, history, and tradition shapes the content and form of dramatic expression, influencing storytelling techniques, character archetypes, and performance styles across different cultures and time periods. This international conference seeks to explore the multifaceted relationships between myth, history, and tradition in drama and theatre, examining how these elements contribute to cultural identity, narrative structures, and the evolution of performance art From ancient religious rituals and mythological narratives to modern reinterpretations of historical and traditional themes, drama and theatre remain deeply rooted in collective memory and cultural expression. By analyzing classical and contemporary works, this conference aims to foster a deeper understanding of how myths serve as allegorical frameworks, how history informs dramatic storytelling, and how traditions provide a foundation for evolving theatrical forms. The discussions will also explore how theatre functions as a means of social and political commentary, enabling playwrights and performers to engage with contemporary issues through historical and mythical lenses.
