II International Conference on Gender Studies & Intermedial Narratives "Bodies / Texts / Media: Gendered Narratives and Critical Assemblages"
Call for Papers
Following the success of the I International Conference on Gender Studies & Intermedial Narratives (UCM, 2024), this new edition seeks to go further, deeper, and bolder. If last year we worked around the idea of intermediality, this year we want to explore its most visceral and material dimension: how gender is inscribed on, through, and as bodies—and how bodies themselves become texts, interfaces, archives, and narrative machines. We begin with a simple premise: every text is a body, and every body is a text.
Cultural narratives, ideologies, technologies, affects, and politics flow across bodies and media. Gender is not only represented; it is performed, coded, embedded, digitized, materialized, and reproduced across literature, film, music, theatre, comics, poetics and digital environments. This interdisciplinary perspective will be explored in this Conference through connections with literary texts from the Anglophone world.
This conference invites contributions that push boundaries, experiment with the text in its various representational forms and engage critically with intermedial theory. We especially welcome hybrid, interdisciplinary, and transgressive proposals.
We seek difficult questions.
We encourage porous borders.
We want texts that come to life and bodies that speak.
We encourage papers dealing with:
1. Embodied & Gendered Textualities
- Queer, trans, and the non-binary
- Sexuality, desire and representation
- Toxicity, vulnerability, resilience
2. Intermedial & Aesthetic Forms
- Film, literature, theatre, music
- Comics, graphic narratives, poetics
- Hybrid or transmedial narratives
3. Posthuman & the Environment
- Cyborgs, avatars, AI-generation
- Virtual bodies; Gender, algorithms
