The London Journal Early Career Publishing Workshop

The London Journal is committed to supporting early career scholars develop work into a publishable journal article. To this end, we are hosting a free workshop to provide practical advice and support on developing research (which might include thesis chapters or conference papers) into publishable, full-length journal articles.

The workshop will take place on 30 January 2026 at the offices of our publisher Taylor & Francis in Southwark, beginning at 12 noon with lunch. Following lunch, attendees will work with members of The London Journal’s editorial board to identify ways that their work could be developed into an article publishable in the Journal. The scope of the Journal is broad, embracing all aspects of metropolitan society past and present, including comparative studies. For more information, visit our website: https://thelondonjournal.org/

To ensure that attendees get the most out of the workshop, they will be required to submit, by 26 January, the work they intend to base their article on, whether it is a thesis chapter, a conference plan, or an article outline. While there is no requirement to submit a full draft article, the more developed the work is, the more tailored our support can be.

To submit an expression of interest for the workshop, email editor@thelondonjournal.org and provide the following details by 5pm UK time on 16 January 2026:

- Name;

- Explanation of your early career status (the workshop is open to postgraduate students and those who have been successfully examined for a PhD within the previous three years);

- An overview of what you are working on that could be brought to the workshop, a comment on its state of completeness (for instance, you have a thesis chapter, or a draft of 2,000 words and a plan for the rest of the article), and a (brief) explanation of why The London Journal is an appropriate outlet for the research.

We will respond to your expression of interest by 21 January.

Bursaries are available to cover train tickets for attendees from outside of London: please indicate in your expression of interest if you wish to be considered for this bursary.

Places are limited, so please submit your expression of interest as soon as possible. In the event that the workshop is oversubscribed, preference will be given to attendees whose work is closest to being submitted for publication.
