CALL FOR PAPERS

Theme: Towards a Chinese Translation of the Greek Septuagint: Opportunity and Challenge   

The conference aims to explore both opportunities and complexities involved in rendering the Greek Septuagint into Chinese. Participants are encouraged to present research on the following themes:

• Lexical and semantic complexity in cross-cultural translation of ancient texts
• Theoretical approaches and philosophy of translation
• Challenges arising from contextual differences between Greek and Chinese linguistic, cultural, and religious backgrounds
• Models and case studies of interdisciplinary collaboration for translation projects
• Digital innovation and new technologies in translation practice
• Other related topics, expanding the scope of the conversation

The conference welcomes paper proposals from postgraduate students, early-career researchers, and established scholars. It will foster academic exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue, and constructive networking on the evolving landscape of Chinese translation of the Septuagint. 

Airfare and hotel accommodations will be arranged at the participants’ own expense, and two complimentary dinners will be provided by the organizing committee during the event.

Supported by a conference grant from the Faculty of Arts, CUHK, and sponsorship from Chung Chi College, CUHK, the conference aims to facilitate progress in pioneering scholarly work that shapes the future of Septuagint studies and enhances the integration of digital, theoretical, and cross-cultural perspectives in translation practice.

Timeline: 

• 15 February 2026:  Proposals for papers, including your name, email address, institutional affiliation and a 300-word abstract, should be submitted to https://cloud.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/webform/view.php?id=13721487 . Papers in Chinese, if accepted, can be presented in Putonghua or Cantonese at the Symposium. 
• 22 February 2026: Notification of acceptance 
• 8 March 2026: Confirmation of participation at the Symposium
• 15 April 2026: Submission of presentation slides or papers

Participants may be invited to submit their complete papers for consideration, and selected submissions of abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings following committee review.
