Studiolo is a series of essays on objects, books, and early technologies, written in the spirit of the chockablock Renaissance study from which it takes its name and published monthly at the Pittsburgh Review of Books (http://www.pghrev.com

Drawing primarily from the collections of Carnegie Mellon University’s Posner Center for Special Collections, each essay lingers over a single artifact. Interested contributors are asked to pitch an essay based on an object included in the collection which can be accessed here, with results filtered through search term "special collections:" Ex Libris Discovery

More than essayistic description, Studiolo is an exercise in sustained attention: a place where historical objects become instruments for thought and inquiry. Contributors do not need to be affiliated with CMU or have visited the Posner Collection itself.
