Matricentric Futures: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Motherhood
Edited by Dr Antonia Mackay (Oxford Brookes University)
Under contract with Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract deadline: Friday 5 June 2026
Full chapter drafts due: Friday 30 July 2027
Matricentric Futures is an interdisciplinary edited collection exploring maternal experience across scholarship, creative practice, clinical insight, and lived testimony. The volume traces maternal experience from conception and birth through care, loss, absence, activism, and creative futurity.
The collection is already in development and under contract with Palgrave Macmillan. Following strong peer review, the editor is now seeking a small number of targeted additional contributions to expand the collection’s geographical, intersectional, and methodological scope.
We particularly welcome proposals addressing:
Geographical and transnational perspectives
- Motherhood beyond the UK context
- Migration, diaspora, borders, and transnational care
- Indigenous and decolonial approaches
Intersectional and structural lenses
- Race and racialised motherhood
- Class, austerity, and precarity
- Disability and neurodiversity
- Queer kinship and non-normative family formations
- Reproductive justice
- Non-motherhood, ambivalence, or refusal
Interdisciplinary and hybrid methodologies
- Co-authored interdisciplinary chapters
- Creative-critical or practice-based research
- Practitioner perspectives grounded in research or policy contexts
