Comics and (Eco)Social Justice - Graphic Narratives for Transformation
VII Jornadas ALCES XXI. Valencia. July 14-17, 2026
Comics and (Eco)Social Justice - Graphic Narratives for Transformation is a research seminar within the ALCES XXI Conference (Valencia, July 14–17, 2026) dedicated to exploring Spanish graphic narratives as a space for critical intervention and reflection on ecological and social justice. The seminar will be conducted in Spanish.
The seminar will examine comics and graphic novels alongside theoretical texts and participants’ own work through shared readings and group discussion (no abstract is required at the time of registration). We will examine how comics contribute to imagining historical memory, crisis and precarity, racism and xenophobia, feminisms, disability, environmentalism, and ecosocial justice.
Conceived as a forum for both those approaching the medium for the first time and established scholars conducting research on it, Comics and (Eco)Social Justice - Narratives for Transformation also aims to open pathways for future collaborations (collective publications, research networks, and other shared projects).
