Neo-Victorian Crime: A Companion
Neo-Victorian Crime: A Companion – extended cfp
We are seeking 3 additional chapters for an edited collection, Neo-Victorian Crime: A Companion, which is currently under contract with Peter Lang publishers.
The volume explores the ongoing fascination with nineteenth-century criminalities in contemporary literature and culture. We are particularly interested in the ideologies of identity at work in neo-Victorian depiction of nineteenth-century crime – in fact and fiction – and also the ethical implications of re-presenting crime for entertainment. We are seeking to expand the global reach of the collection by including chapters on neo-Victorian crime, identity and ideologies in the context of India, Japan, South Korea, and/or South American countries.
We welcome submissions from critics and creative practitioners working on neo-Victorian texts in any format. Chapters will be 6000 words in length (including all references) and completed submissions will be due by 30th September 2026. Please send 500 word abstracts (with a brief bio note) to Helen Davies and Maria Isabel Romero-Ruiz at neovictoriancrimes@gmail.com and mirr@uma.es by 3rd April 2026. If you have any queries or ideas that you would like to discuss, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
