T. S. Eliot Studies Annual Volume 9
The T. S. Eliot Studies Annual, Call for Papers for Volume 9
The T. S. Eliot Studies Annual is the leading venue for the critical reassessment of Eliot’s life and work in light of the ongoing publication of his letters, critical volumes of his complete prose, the 2015 edition of his complete poems, and the forthcoming critical edition of his plays.
All critical approaches are welcome, as are essays pertaining to any aspect of Eliot’s work as a poet, critic, playwright, editor, foremost exemplar of modernism, or his influence on twentieth-century and contemporary literature and culture.
Each volume of the Annual provides a selection of original, peer-reviewed essays (5,000-9,000 words) representing the best in current Eliot scholarship. In addition, the Annual publishes shorter research notes (2,500-4,000 words), book reviews, and a comprehensive bibliography of Eliot-related publications.

Submissions, inquiries, and book review suggestionscan be sent directly to the editors at tseliot.studies.annual@gmail.com.
The journal’s Style Guide can be found here. Including an abstract at the initial submission stage is appreciated, though not required.
Vol. 9 Special Forum – Eliot Beyond Borders
The Annual has also regularly featured special forums that organize a set of articles around a unified topic or theme. Volume 9 will feature a Special Forum, guest-edited by Michelle A. Taylor, on the theme of “Eliot Beyond Borders.” This forum invites research notes and short essays (up to 5,000 words) that think about the stakes of border-crossing in Eliot’s work, whether by exploring issues of migration, international relations, and translation in Eliot’s life and writings, or other forms of border-crossing, including between forms, genres, and media. We also invite papers that think beyond or about the borders of Eliot studies: what new perspectives and comparisons does the single author society need? Conversely, what are the boundaries that can only be transgressed by focusing on one writer? In a time when “border crisis” has become a euphemism not only for human suffering but for the intensification of state-sanctioned violence, we hope this forum will go some of the way towards breaking the academic cliche (or euphemism?) that thinking “beyond borders” has become.
Submissions Guidelines for the Special Forum: If you are interested in contributing to the Special Forum, please send an abstract (200 words) to tseliot.studies.annual@gmail.com, using the subject line “Eliot Beyond Borders Volume 9.” The due date for Special Forum abstract submissions is June 1; if accepted, drafts will be due on December 1st.
