  • Special Session Deadline: April 26 (but please propose sooner)
  • Paper Acceptance / Decline Reveal: June 1 (depending on submission date, deliberation could take longer)
  • PAMLA Conference 2026: November 12 to November 15

This year’s Comparative Media panel invites submissions that explore media broadly defined, with particular attention to its cultural, political, and theoretical dimensions. The session welcomes work that examines relationships between media forms, emerging technologies, and the ways media shapes, and is shaped by, structures of power and ideology. While submissions on any aspect of media studies are encouraged, papers engaging with the conference theme, “Our Ruling Classes: Culture, Power, Conflict,” will receive special consideration. We are now accepting abstracts on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Relationships between different media forms
  • Emerging and digital media
  • Media ontologies and affordances
  • Cultural power and political ideology in media
  • Remediation, hypermediation, and demediation
  • Resistant or complicit media practices
  • Human relationships with media (from disconnection to constant engagement)
  • Dark media and media ecologies
  • Software, platforms, and infrastructures
  • Moral panics and media discourse
  • Artificial intelligence, surveillance, and data cultures
  • Materiality and environmental media
  • Posthumanism and media in the Anthropocene

If your work contributes to how we understand, critique, or engage with media (whether broadly conceived or narrowly defined) we encourage you to submit an abstract. Submission Details:
