Enprynted by Me: Caxton at Westminster
This year is the 550th anniversary of William Caxton’s establishment of the first printing press in England in 1476. We invite papers for a two-day conference on Caxton’s career, texts, and contexts. Abstracts of up to 300 words to be sent to shaw.worth@all-souls.ox.ac.uk and jacob.ridley@ell.ox.ac.uk by 10 June 2026.
This conference will bring together a variety of leading scholars and bibliographers to consider Caxton’s printed output in England afresh. We welcome further submissions both from within literary criticism and bibliography and beyond (ecclesiastical history; art history; translation studies; reception studies). Lunch and a drinks reception will be provided; speakers will be offered single accommodation in Oxford for the night of the 14th. The conference will also include handling sessions with a variety of incunabula, including a host of Caxtons, at the Bodleian Library and other colleges in Oxford.
