Claflin University Conference on Languages and Cultural Studies  (In-person on the campus of Claflin University) *

October 21-22, 2026

THEME: CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE TEACHING IN HIGHER EDUCATION AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS

*(Participants not residing in the United States and those unable to travel may request a virtual option)Scholarly and creative writing panel proposals, roundtable proposals, and paper abstracts on all aspects of reading, writing, and teaching modern languages are invited including papers and panels on

  • Linguistic diversity & culturally informed pedagogy in the social sciences and humanities
  • All aspects of studying and teaching literature (including world literature, postcolonial literature, and travel literature)
  • Models for international collaborations between either students or faculty in the social sciences and humanities
  • Creative writing/ Creative writing pedagogy
  • Composition pedagogy
  • Teaching foreign languages

 Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit papers. Abstracts are limited to a maximum of 350 words. Brief bios of 175 words are required. Electronic submissions are requested. Presentations should be limited to 15 minutes. Panels are limited to four (4) presenters per panel. Papers and panels are solicited on:

Receipt deadline: July 1, 2026

The registration fee for the conference is $50 for faculty members, and $25 for graduate students and presenters residing in other countries. The registration deadline is August 1, 2026, for all presenters. Online registration is required for all presenters. There are  plans to publish a collection with full papers that are presented at this year’s conference.

(The fee is waived for undergraduate students. We are unable to grant fee waivers.)
