Bibliographical Society of America – Sponsored Sessions (RSA conference in Philadelphia, March 2027)
The Bibliographical Society of America (BSA) will sponsor up to four panels at RSA Philadelphia 2027 and invites proposals for individual papers or pre-formed panels on any topic within the scope of bibliography and book history. Papers and pre-formed panels may address, but are certainly not limited to, the following topics:
- Print and manuscript culture in early modern Europe, the Global South, and the Americas
- Materiality and textual studies, including micro-, meso-, and macro-level investigations into text and paratext, both synchronic and diachronic
- Book history writ large: the historical bibliography of specific books, stationers or syndicates and their bookshops and printing houses, print agents within particular book trades, and related subjects
- New directions, findings, and methodologies in the histories of books, bookmaking, book collecting, reading, and book trades
- Gender and its intersections with books, stationers, book trades, and readers (e.g., widow printers and booksellers, women apprentices)
For individual papers, please submit an abstract (150 words maximum) and a one-page CV. For pre-formed panels, please submit a session title (15 words maximum), a short description of the panel, and paper abstracts and one-page CVs for each panelist. Please send all documents to BSA–RSA representative Andreas P. Bassett (andreas.bassett@sjsu.edu) by July 15, 2026.
