From the Page to the Street: Guerilla Poetry, Poetry at Rallies & Protests, Community Poetry
Seeking critical and critical-creative presentations for a proposed panel at the Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture After 1900, Feb.18-20 2027
Rather than repeat the longstanding debate about whether or not poetry is a form of activism, this panel is interested in the kind of resistance work poetry is already doing in and around our communities. From CA Conrad’s public rituals to poetry on public transit, from the revitalization of punk-era guerilla poetry to the way that poetry has recently appeared at political rallies, let’s investigate how poetry shows up, why, and how it functions (or fails) as a public artform in the 21st-century.
Critical and critical-creative hybrid presentations are welcome. Please submit a proposal (250 words) describing your 10-to-15-minute presentation and a short bio (100 words) to Addie Hopes Vincent at ahopes@esf.edu. Deadline: August 1, 2006.
