PAMLA 2026 CFP (Extended Deadline) - Together and Apart: Muslims, Jews, and Christians in Medieval Spain
PAMLA 2026 is pleased to present Together and Apart: Muslims, Jews, and Christians in Medieval Spain (https://pamla.ballastacademic.com/Home/S/19955)!
Panel Description: This session invites proposals for papers that examine texts in the broadest sense of the term produced by Muslims, Jews, and Christians in medieval Spain, when the proximity of these distinct cultures enriched each one in ways rarely seen since then. We are particularly interested in proposals that address the convivencia, or coexistence, and even flourishing of these three cultures, as well as the tensions that eventually undermined their centuries-long collaboration. Proposals studying written works by Muslim, Jewish, and Christian authors are welcome, as are those focusing on other “texts” that shed light on the variable relationships of these groups, including, among other possibilities, painting, architecture, and music. Likewise, we invite proposals that engage with the conference theme, “Our Ruling Classes: Culture, Power, Conflict,” in this case, for example, how relationships between the three cultures of medieval Spain reflected every-changing dynamics of power, coexistence, and conflict.
The extended deadline for paper proposals is June 30 or when filled! You can also browse our more than 170+ open sessions here (https://pamla.ballastacademic.com/Home/CFP).
