Join a panel at the 14th annual CSULA Eagle Con!  Eagle Con is an annual event devoted the power and potential of speculative and fantastic media to critique social formations, interrogate subjectivities, and constitute alternative worlds. 

This year's theme is "Neo Los Angeles: A City on the Edge of the Future" and will feature programming focusing on popular genres as sites of critical reflection on the past, present, and potential futures of our increasingly urban existence. Central texts in SF, Fantasy, Horror, and Superhero media offer visions of urban geography, lived space, and city milieus as diverse as Batman's Gotham City, Planet of the Apes' Ape City, and Blade Runner's "Los Angeles November, 2019" that allegorically refract our own understandings of how to live, move, and adapt to city life. To explore these ideas, we are seeking proposals that use film, TV, comics, games, and literature in the speculative and fantastic traditions to explore such themes as: 

- spatiality, architecture and design in the city 

- catastrophe and collapse of urban spaces 

- seclusion and exclusion in the city 

- community and belonging in and through popular media 

- fandom as an urban phenomenon 

- crises of domesticity in the city 

- urban decay and sprawling megacities 

- surveillance, power, and criminality in the city 

- movement and mobility in the urban space 

- post-industrial and pre-industrial design 

- datafication and urban planning 

- screens and incorporeality in cities 

- ecocriticism and urban design 

- mixed reality and wired cities 

- post-human and non-human urban design 

Eagle Con is a free and inclusive community event, so proposals that connect academic research with public scholarship are preferred. 

Submit: Abstract: 350-500 words & an author biography 

Timeline: Abstracts due July 19, 2026.  

Accepted proposals will be notified by September 1, 2026
