Luxury is at a crossroads. Geopolitical shifts, environmental urgencies and evolving cultural values are dismantling old certainties. The question facing scholars, practitioners and critics is no longer simply whether luxury can change but whether it even wants to. Issue 5.1 of Luxury Studies takes its steer from the IPOL Conference 2026 theme, 'Time to Change', building on the Honest Luxury conversation begun at IPOL 2025 that exposed the exploitation, extraction and ethical compromises behind luxury branded objects and services. This issue asks what comes next.

We welcome original submissions that interrogate luxury at this time of reckoning. Work that challenges inherited assumptions, asks hard questions about responsibility and explores new possibilities for the sector is especially encouraged. Contributions from both scholars and industry specialists are welcome. We are committed to work that asks uncomfortable questions and resists easy answers.
