About the Conference

The conference, “Narratives of the Mind: Media, Literature and Culture,” is conceived as an interdisciplinary platform for examining the complex and evolving representations of the human mind across diverse branches: literature, culture, and media . In this context, the “mind” is not regarded solely as a structural or biological entity, but as a dynamic site shaped by language, narrative, ideology, technology, and cultural practices. By foregrounding narratives, the conference aims to illuminate how mental experiences are constructed, expressed, mediated, and contested across time and space.

Ranging from the fragmented narratives of literary modernism to the algorithmically determined realities of digital media, representations of consciousness, memory, trauma, and identity have undergone significant change. Narrative forms—whether textual, visual, performative, or digital—play a crucial role in shaping how individuals and collective groups perceive mental life. These narratives not only reflect subjective experiences but also construct frameworks through which mental health, selfhood, and emotional life are understood.

In recent years, the growing visibility of mental health discourse in public culture has brought renewed attention to questions of representation, ethics, and agency. Film, television, social media, and digital storytelling platforms increasingly mediate experiences of anxiety, depression, neurodiversity, and trauma, often oscillating between awareness and commodification. At the same time, literary and cultural texts continue to offer nuanced explorations of interiority, affect, and the limits of language in articulating mental states. This conference invites participants to critically engage with these tensions, interrogating how narratives of the mind are shaped by institutional, technological, and cultural forces.

The conference also seeks to situate these narratives within broader socio-political and cultural contexts. Questions of race, gender, sexuality, class, disability, and geopolitics significantly influence how mental experiences are narrated and perceived. Postcolonial frameworks, for instance, challenge dominant Western epistemologies of the mind and open up alternative ways of understanding consciousness and subjectivity. Similarly, the intersections of neuroscience, philosophy, and cultural theory offer fertile ground for rethinking the relationship between mind, body, and narrative.

By bringing together scholars, researchers, and professionals, the conference encourages contributions that move beyond conventional boundaries, focusing on interdisciplinary approaches.

The conference will be held in hybrid mode on 10th and 11th September 2026.
