Postcolonial Interventions invites scholarly articles for the January 2027 issue on the theme of Popular Culture and the Rise of the Right.

Across the world, right-wing governments are gaining power and momentum and various aspects of popular culture have played a key role in endorsing, proliferating and consolidating the basic tenets of these regimes which include such common features as xenophobia, persecution of minorities, religious bigotry, ecological catastrophes, jingoism, discrimination against LGBTQI+ communities, collapse of social security coupled with increased precarity, nexus between state and oligarchs, patriarchal chauvinism and much else. At the same time, the same domain of popular culture continues to generate subversive voices as well which keep on opposing the cardinal ideas of the dominant order. We are hoping to receive articles that take into account these currents and cross-currents to explore the layered and complex relationship between right-wing politics and popular culture across postcolonial societies through an examination of diverse cultural artefacts.

Submission Guidelines:

1. Articles must be original and unpublished. Submission will imply that it is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
2. Written in Times New Roman 12, double spaced with 1″ margin on all sides, in doc/docx format.
3. Between 4000-7000 words, inclusive of all citations.
4. With in-text citations and a Works Cited list complying with Chicago Manual of Style (author-date) specifications.
5. A separate cover page should include the author’s name, designation, an abstract of 250 words with a maximum of 5 keywords and a short bio-note of 50 words.
6. The main article should not in any way contain the author’s name. Otherwise the article will not be considered.
7. Reviews also need to follow the aforementioned guidelines. However, word limit for reviews is 1500 words. Only reviews of books published within the last two years is acceptable.
8. The contributors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any material, including photographs and illustrations for which they do not hold copyright.
9. Please submit a plagiarism check report from Turnitin/Drillbit or any other reliable service provider along with your paper. Similarity percentage should be 10 or lower.
