Call for Contributors: Paid Research & Analysis Writing (Remote, Freelance)
The Pivot Academic — an independent research and analysis platform based in Hong Kong — invites undergraduate and postgraduate students, recent graduates, and independent scholars to join our global contributor network.
WHO WE ARE
The Pivot Academic is a decentralized intellectual hub founded by a team of European scholars. We publish rigorous, evidence-based analysis on the forces reshaping our world, and we connect independent researchers with a global audience. No institutional affiliation or prior publication record is required — what matters is the rigor of your argument, the originality of your perspective, and the integrity of your evidence.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Original research, analysis, and field-based reporting in our three core areas:
1. Geopolitics & Great Power Competition — security architectures, sovereignty disputes, sanctions and geo-economics
2. Digital Rights & Surveillance — state surveillance, algorithmic governance, digital censorship, data privacy
3. Democratic Resilience & Institutional Reform — democratic backsliding, disinformation, institutional legitimacy
We especially welcome empirical work: unpublished field notes, interview-based research, primary-source analysis, and term papers or thesis chapters you are proud of.
HOW CONTRIBUTORS ARE COMPENSATED
This is a freelance, per-piece collaboration — not employment, with no fixed hours and no long-term commitment on either side.
- Paid trial piece: USD 300–500. Selected applicants are commissioned to write a short trial analysis — paid upon acceptance. This is a low-risk way for both sides to confirm a good fit. (For the avoidance of doubt: we never charge applicants any fees, at any stage. We pay you — never the other way around.)
- Ongoing contributions: USD 500–2,000 per accepted piece, depending on quality, depth, and consistency of collaboration.
- Mentorship from our European-led scholarly network, peer review that makes your work better, and global reach for your ideas.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
- Current undergraduate (junior/senior year) or postgraduate students, recent graduates, and independent scholars
- Background in international relations, political science, human rights, law, public policy, environmental/energy studies, economics, journalism, or related fields
- Strong English writing skills; additional languages are a plus
- You must be able to produce original work written by you — submissions generated by AI tools are not accepted
- No prior publications required
