"Exile or Expatriate?"
Graduate Student Colloquium
Saint Louis University, Madrid, Spain
8 June 2007

The Association of Graduate Students at St. Louis University Madrid Campus
is posting a call for papers for its 5th annual graduate student colloquium:
"Exile or Expatriate?" Papers may consider exile or expatriation in
literature or in their effects on the lives of writers. Papers may also
explore the gulf between the two modes of traveling abroad-what are the
effects on literature of an author's leaving by choice versus an unwilling
expulsion. Topics might include: the changing patterns of travel amongst the
remnants of empire, diasporas throughout time and across cultures, the
experiences of refugees of warring nations, the experiences of colonials,
Americans in Paris... etc.

Proposals are invited for 20-minute presentations and participation in a
variety of panels. Please submit 300-word abstracts and a short bio to
Timothy Day (jinstra_at_gmail.com) and Susan Kenney (selizake2_at_hotmail.com).
Deadline for proposals is 15 April 2007.
