Call for papers
>From F.T. Marinetti to Daniel Spoerri, from Vito Acconci to Karen Finley
and Alicia Rios, the Western avant-garde has explored the conjunction of
art and foodstuff in ways that encourage a reappraisal of contemporary
notions of the body, language and subjectivity. Interval(le)s seeks
contributions that examine the importance of food as a pivotal element –
both materially and symbolically - in the history of contemporary
experimental art and literature. The intention is to invite a variety of
approaches and stimulate interdisciplinary debate. Please note that papers
should go beyond close reading of a single work or artist and develop a
larger theoretical and historical perspective. Possible topics include,
but are not limited to: the literary still life; food as material object;
food and performance; food and gender; the symbolism of food; food and
ethnicity; Eat Art; food and sexuality; food, art and the poetics of
abjection.

Anyone interested in contributing should send papers of maximum 6000
words, in English or French, to Michel Delville, mdelville_at_ulg.ac.be, by
September 1, 2006. Expressions of interest prior to the deadline are
encouraged.

De F.T. Marinetti a Daniel Spoerri, de Vito Acconci a Karen Finley et
Alicia Rios, l'avant-garde occidentale n'a pas cesse d'interroger les
relations entre l'art et la nourriture, entrainant par la meme occasion
une remise en question des notions contemporaines du corps, du langage et
de la subjectivite. Ce second numero de la revue Interval(le)s sera
consacre aux fonctions materielles et symboliques de la nourriture dans
l'art et litterature contemporains. Il accueillera les approches les plus
diversifiees, pour autant qu'elles stimulent un debat interdisciplinaire
et ouvrent une perspective theorique et historique plus large que
l'analyse d'une seule œuvre ou d'un seul artiste. Les propositions peuvent
porter, entre autres sujets possibles, sur: la nature morte litteraire ;
la nourriture en tant qu'objet materiel ; la nourriture et le performance
art ; la nourriture et le genre (gender) ; les aliments et les symboles;
la nourriture et l'ethnie ; l'Eat-Art ; la nourriture et la sexualite ; la
nourriture, l'art et la poetique de l'abjection.

Les chercheurs interesses sont invites a soumettre des articles de 6000
mots maximum, en français ou en anglais, à Michel Delville,
mdelville_at_ulg.ac.be. Les auteurs peuvent des maintenant contacter le
responsable du projet et seront pries d'envoyer leur texte avant le 1er
Septembre 2006.
