For some years, interaction between universities and business has taken second place in importance behind the REF and the employability agenda.

InnovationKT 2014 will explore how universities can take advantage of improvements in the UK economy and the steer given by Sir Andrew Witty in his recent review, to revitalise the third mission.

InnovationKT wil be of interest to all knowledge professionals - those academics, business people, managers and researchers working with innovation, enterprise, knowledge transfer, exchange and sharing.

Featuring world-class speakers, oral presentation sessions and interactive workshops, the InnovationKT 2014 conference will provide an excellent opportunity to publish a paper in journal and book form, and at the same time disseminate, share and discuss the impact of university-business and business-business interactions.

Call for Papers

Papers on relevant topics are invited to be evaluated for the conference under peer-review and if accepted, published in the proceedings.

The conference proceedings, containing Full and Short papers, will be published in the open access journal "InImpact: The Journal of Innovation Impact", ISSN 2051-6002, and in book-form "Innovation through Knowledge Transfer", published in the KES Transactions series.

Conference Scope

InnovationKT covers the following topics (although this list is not intended to
be exhaustive):-

- Case studies of successful university-business
- Examples of best practice in respect of innovation and knowledge transfer from practitioners
- Innovative innovation and knowledge transfer mechanisms
- The outcomes and results of university-business and business-business projects
- Management of projects and development of applicable policy

Applicable knowledge transfer mechanisms and paradigms include, but are not
limited to:-

- The UK Technology Strategy Board (TSB) Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP)
- Spin-out companies
- Incubators and entrepreneur schemes
- University-industry contracts and consultancy
- Licensing of university-originated intellectual property
- Other modes of knowledge transfer and technology transfer, e.g. work-based
learning projects
- The knowledge transfer, knowledge origination and knowledge exchange process

Professor Tom Barnes
- Deputy Vice Chancellor at Research & Enterprise - University of Greenwich
- Title of Talk: Making The Knowledge Triangle Work in Practice (TBC)

Professor Tom Barnes leads the University of Greenwich's research, enterprise and regional strategies, regionally, nationally and internationally. The university has the highest income for research grants and contracts among post-1992

Liz Shutt
- Head of Policy, The University Alliance

Liz Shutt joined University Alliance in 2009 and is responsible for overseeing a programme of high-quality research and analysis in order to develop evidence-based policy positions across each of the priority areas.

Dr. Christopher Sier
- Co-Lead on FiNexus

Chris is the former co-Director of the Financial Services Knowledge Transfer network (FSKTN) and is co-lead on FiNexus, a programme to build a series of research and innovation centres in the UK for financial services.

Sessions and Workshops


BENEFITS (Building an Enterprise Network for an Efficient Innovation and Training System) is a project funded under the EU Interreg France (Channel) - England programme. Benefits
involves partners in North France (Le laboratoire IRISE - Institut de Recherche et d'Innovation en Sciences de l'Entreprise - du Cesi) and the South of England (Universities of Greenwich
and Exeter).

**Media Mixer

Media Mixer is an EU Framework funded project aimed at 'Making media more valuable for its owner and useful for the consumer'. The workshop will report on progress achieved by the project and aspirations for the future.

**KTP Case Studies

This session will feature case studies on a broad spectrum of KTP projects showing the benefits to be obtained from the synergy between companies and the UK's knowledge base.

by Professor Chris Birch on the 2-4 April 2014. Greenwich is a world heritage site and is home to the National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory, and Sir Christopher Wren's Old Royal Naval College and the Cutty Sark.
