Call for Papers:
THEME: "Converging Voices of the Pirate State"

"Ahoy Mates!" The Florida College English Association is pleased to announce its 2014 Conference on the Treasure Coast of Florida. You are invited to present papers, panel discussions, and talks related to the many voices represented in texts, popular culture, and media converging upon Florida's shores, landscapes, and beyond.

La Florida's lost treasures, mesmerizing sunshine, and geographical location have enticed transients, immigrants, explorers, gazers, sea rovers, and snow birds, embarking on new lives - foregoing their previous lives, tumultuous conditions, and/or frigid lifestyles. As a result, the state has an amazing convergence of liminality and culture.

Jenkins says, "Convergence occurs within the brains of individual consumers and through their social interactions with others. Each of us constructs our own personal mythology from bits and fragments of information extracted from the media flow and transformed into resources through which we make sense of our everyday lives.
― Henry Jenkins, Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide

Me hearties! We encourage submissions & papers highlighting various ideologies, policies, practices, and piracy that emerge within texts and in light of cultural convergence, including - but not limited to work in the following areas:

English Literature Studies
Florida Studies
Composition Studies
Rhetorical Criticism
American/Ethnic Studies

Other related fields that represent and demonstrate the unique challenges and nuances involving life in a culturally diverse world will also be considered. Please submit a 250 word abstract to
