Sitcoms and Sitcom Stars of the 1950s (November 15, 2014; Proposals due August 1, 2014)
We invite presentation proposals pertaining to noteworthy sitcoms and sitcom stars of the 1950s, to be featured in a special series of panels at the Analyzing the 1950s: Media, Politics, Culture Conference, which will be held at Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, Texas) on Saturday, November 15, 2014. This daylong conference promises to provide an intellectually stimulating investigation into the complex phenomenon that was "The Fifties," whether televisually or otherwise.
We encourage submissions from scholars, educators, students, and television enthusiasts at all levels, and from disciplines including communication, cultural studies, history, media studies, popular culture, sociology, television studies, and women's studies, among others. Individual paper presentations will be limited to 20 minutes in length.
Given adequate participant interest and high-quality submissions, we are hoping to publish selected papers (with author's permission) in a special collection of essays pertaining to the conference theme.
Please e-mail presentation proposals containing (a) a one-page abstract with complete contact information (name, institutional affiliation, mail and e-mail addresses, contact telephone number) and (b) a one-paragraph author biography to Professor Kylo-Patrick Hart (email@example.com) on or before Friday, August 1, 2014.
Decisions regarding the status of submitted proposals will be made and communicated as quickly as possible following the submission deadline, and certainly no later than August 15, 2014. For specific inquiries prior to submitting a proposal, please contact Dr. Hart at your convenience by e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org).
