'The chief enemy of creativity is good sense.' - Pablo Picasso

The University of Glasgow, College of Arts and Humanities, invites proposals for papers on the theme of creativity for its fourth international postgraduate conference.

Creativity lies at the heart of the Arts and Humanities. In its origins, its forms and its impact, creativity escapes categorisation and encourages new formulations of knowledge. Within academia, there may exist an inherent tension between the act of creation and critical analysis. The purpose of this conference is to explore how these tensions, themes and challenges surface in the diverse field of Arts and Humanities research. We welcome papers from individual scholars and inter-disciplinary collaborations.

Potential sub-topics can include but are not limited to:

• History and concept of creativity / of the creator
• Creative practice as research
• Creativity as a methodological tool in the humanities
• Creativity in historiography and archaeology
• The business of creativity
• Creativity and imitation
• The Romantic idea of the creative genius
• Democratisation of creativity
• Curating creativity
• Creativity and the senses
• The artist and the critic
• The hermeneutics of creativity
• Creativity and interpretation; creativity and translation
• Modernist expressions of creativity
• Creativity and audience / reception
• Creativity and the mind
