Call for Papers: The Actor in the Interval

Comparative Drama will publish a special issue exploring the interval (understood as a space that distinguishes, connects, or performs) between theater and literary studies, with a focus on the actor. We seek submissions that engage both disciplines, either by combining methodologies or by taking the relationship between fields as a subject. Possible topics include (but are not limited to):

The mutual influence between scripts and actors
Accounting for actors in literary studies of drama
Textual and/or theatrical embodiment
Character as a cross-disciplinary concept
The actor in performance history
Actors and the reader's/audience's imagination
Prose, verse, utterance, and action
The actor in literal and metaphorical spaces

Essays may focus on any historical period, geographical region, or type of performance. Trans-historical and international studies are also welcome.

Submissions should be 7,500–10,000 words and follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition. Send to comparative-drama@wmich.edu by January 1, 2016.
