Many teachers of Edgar Allan Poe's writings spend time dispelling myths about the writer, and this process involves helping students understand the antebellum world in which Poe lived and worked. At the upcoming ALA Conference in San Francisco, the Poe Studies Association will sponsor a panel about contextualizing Poe, and for this panel dedicated to pedagogical matters, the PSA seeks proposals. Possible topics include Poe and magazine publishing; Poe's topical humor; antebellum responses to Poe's writings; nationalism and Poe; nineteenth-century science in the works of Poe; mourning and death in Poe's America; Poe and popular song; Poe the reviewer; and criminality in the world of Poe. Other relevant topics are, of course, welcome.

To submit a proposal, send a title and an abstract of no more than 350 words to Travis Montgomery at tdmontg1@gmail.com. The subject line should read "PSA Panel 2016." The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2016.
