Submissions in PROSE

Please look back through our posts to be sure your work is a good fit for us. (www.lehighvalleyvanguard.org)

We are interested in radical politics. This means writing that considers poor, working class, and marginalized groups. Explorations of identity, neoliberalism, building a broad-based left movement, and resisting oppression: these topics are the most interesting to the editorial board.

Currently we'd especially like to see more about:

-Rethinking history: how has there been an erasure of marginalized groups over decades and how are/can they reclaim their spaces.
-Building a culture of unions and social programs that work.
-Universal basic income research.
-Debt as the oppression of the poor and working class.
-Intersections of national, religious, racial, and class identity as a means of creating community love.
-Reports of direct action/calls for action.
-Cultural analysis of works of art or media from a class, gender, or critical race perspective.

Overall, we're looking for work which creates a critical reading culture for our audience.

Also: please take a look at our list of CFP topics for the year to get an idea of our needs.

Submissions should be 500-2,500 words.

Please submit in Microsoft Word, Open Office, or Google Docs.

Generally, 12 pt. Times New Roman or similar, readable font should be used.

Submissions in POETRY

We accept poetry submissions which demonstrate critical engagement with society and/or identity.

Poems of 15-100 lines are considered for publication, although there have been exceptions.

Poets have the unique opportunity to be placed in consideration for a residency with LVV after they have submitted a poem. A residency means: you will have up to 5 of your poems published over a 3 month period, your biography will remain on the site forever (or if you ever decide you want it down), you will be invited to read at one or more of our local shows, you will be included in the printed Collections (see below), and you will have a greater chance of being nominated for a Pushcart Prize with us.

We publish a print compilation series called Lehigh Valley Vanguard Collections which contains themed essays and poetry. You may end up in one of those.

Submissions should be sent to lehighvalleyvanguard@gmail.com.

Please allow up to 2 weeks to hear back. If you do not hear back, please assume we've passed on your piece, but unless we've expressly said not to, submit again. If you submit many times and hear nothing back, assume we are not right for you.

However, if you need a bit of revision but your message is moving, we will work with you in an editorial process.
