This hybrid conference follows 2022's ‘Women in World(-)Literature’ which was also held at the University of Warwick.

Following the inaugural Henri Nouwen Lectureship, the Henri Nouwen Society, in partnership with the Oblate School of Theology, is pleased to announce an Academic Symposium dedicated to the life, work, and enduring influence of Henri Nouwen, a profound thinker and writer whose contributions to theology, spirituality, and pastoral care have inspired countless individuals and communities. This symposium aims to bring together scholars and practitioners to explore and critically engage with Nouwen’s rich body of work.

The Institute for Research on Women (IRW) at Rutgers University is seeking guest editors for the Spring 2026 issue of its online journal, Rejoinder (https://irw.rutgers.edu/rejoinder). Rejoinder features work at the intersection of scholarship and activism that reflects feminist/queer and social justice perspectives and is currently published once a year. Guest editors will be responsible for the overall shape of the issue, and Rejoinder staff will advise on the process.

The 21st century has been marked as an emerging epoch of new discourses with a dynamic change of intellectual, methodological, epistemological and critical avenues of research to address the swiftly changing nuances of social, political, economic, personal and professional lives of human beings all over the world. Researchers have embraced innovative approaches, methodologies and pedagogies to navigate the new complex frontiers of 21st Century. As the world grapples with multifaceted challenges such as climate change, economic inequality, and global health crises, the need for innovative approaches to economic development has become more urgent than ever.

This roundtable responds to and anticipates the tactics of banning, censure, prohibition, and redaction deployed by conservative institutions of late. From the erasure of gender neutral pronouns by Argentine fascists to the elimination of "Latinx" by state officials in Arkansas, from the outlaw of DEI offices by the incoming Trump regime to Rodrigo Duterte’s genocidal “war on drugs” in the Philippines, it is clear that the right-wing believes deleting a signifier also deletes its referent.

Blurring the lines between art and scholarship, creative-critical practices combine imaginative production with theoretical analysis and reflection. The creative process itself becomes a method of research, discovery and meaning-making, extending and transforming critical theories. By inhabiting a space between established genres and methodologies, creative-critical practitioners generate hybrid works that provoke new ways of seeing, understanding and engaging with the world.

This new edited volume aims to explore some of the most recent conversations about teaching and performing Shakespeare in the age of woke cultural politics, culture wars, and social justice debates.

In the context of media hostility and panic, what are the challenges faced by new scholars, audiences and learners?

How should Shakespeare be positioned in the twenty-first century cultural landscape?

In a significant portion of feminist criticism in its populist interpretation, there is an ongoing sense of wanting to shape feminine characters from legends, folklore, and history into models for a kind of feminism and perceived empowerment more closely associated with twenty-first-century understandings of the feminine than those directly connected to social, historical, or cultural sources. This backcasting and interpretation changes these characters into ones that would better suit a modern set of beliefs through syncretism and the creation not of folkloric or cultural beliefs but of a folkloresque sense of the subject.

Digital platforms have never been a gender-neutral space, not only in the sense that they bring different experiences to people of different gender identities, but also because it has been structured in gendered ways—no matter it’s the gender imbalance existing in technology design teams, the gender-specific target audience segmentation, or third-parties’ involvement in reinforcing gender norms. Its gendered structures have also been further complicated by users’ actions.  Instead of accepting gendered platforms as a default design, we encourage presentations to think of platforms as a cultural form that embodies larger social and political structures.

Theme: Critical Gender Studies Now: Interdisciplinary Interventions

Boy Not There is a newly established fellowship, advocating for collaboration between scholars and lived-experience advocates regarding sexual violence against men and boys.

We aim to amplify voices that confront the challenges of male sexual violence, reckoning with social stigmas that often become barriers to disclosure. We work with survivors, researchers, educators and professional clinicians to create supportive frameworks for histories to be shared and eventually overcome.
